Pastor’s Pen - August 24, 2009

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

This past week, the city of Vaughan was hit by a vicious Tornado.  Most of our congregation lives in this city, including the towns of Woodbridge and Maple, which were hit the hardest by this storm.  By God’s grace, none of our people suffered death or serious injury.  But several of our families, both in Woodbridge and Maple, suffered property damage.  There were a number of eye-witness testimonies on Sunday of seeing this fury in full force.  The Lord’s house and property were spared any damage.

We are surely thankful no one in the City of Vaughan was killed, though surveying the destruction, it is a miracle.  It is our prayer that the Lord would use this event to draw souls closer to Himself.  It is a sobering warning of the suddenness of tragedy and how all mankind needs to be prepared to meet God.  For Christians, it is also a comforting reminder that, in times of trouble and tribulation, we have a faithful and compassionate God to Whom we can turn.

On Sunday, we worshipped the Lord by witnessing two ladies follow their Saviour in believer’s baptism.  It reminded us all again of God’s grace and goodness!

All of our attention is now focused upon our 18th Anniversary Service on Sunday, September 20th. Much prayer and preparation is being invested in this special celebration service.  Join us as we place our focus upon the One from Whom all blessings flow!

12 men met at Pastor Hird’s on Friday night for a great spiritual evening together.  The food, the fire, and the fellowship made for a special “manly” night.

On Sunday morning, I concluded a 19 part expository sermon series through Micah.  Other expository teaching studies continue: Acts, in adult Sunday school and Hosea, on Wednesday evenings.

This Sunday, following the evening service, we will be baptizing.

Much prayer and preparation is going into our 18th Anniversary service on Sunday, September 20th.  We’d ask that you pray with us that God would truly be glorified for what He, and He alone, has done!  The entire week prior to this service, we have devoted to distributing 3,000 John and Romans booklets with gospel tracts inside.

Following Sunday night’s worship service, with only a few exceptions, all of our evening congregation went over to the Lorusso home for a time of food and fellowship.  The pizza, snacks, and desserts complimented a great time of church family fellowship together.

On Friday evening, the men are heading to Pastor Hird’s for a cookout and eatout!

On Wednesday, August 12th, we are having our monthly separate men’s and women’s Bible studies at the church starting at 7pm.  There will be a nursery as always and classes for the children.  The following week we will be back together continuing an expository teaching study through Hosea.

This Sunday morning, I will be preaching the 19th and final message of an expository sermon series through the book of Micah.  At 5pm, the church Officers are meeting in my office.  Sunday night, I will be preaching a topical sermon.

Baptisms are scheduled for Sunday evening, August 16th.

Our week-long John and Romans blitz begins on Monday, September 14th.  By God’s grace, we will deliver 3,000 of these in preparation for our 18th Anniversary Services on Sunday, September 20th.

Also, pray for Pastor Dennis Seely at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Carbonear, Newfoundland.  He has mono!  Pray also for Vickie - she’ll have 4 boys at home to take care of!
