Pastor’s Pen - July 27, 2009

We enjoyed another wonderful Friend Day & BBQ on Sunday.  The food and fellowship were full-filling!  I preached on Elisha’s request for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit.  The Lord blessed us with a double portion of His goodness.  Our cups were running over.

The Lord’s Supper will be observed this Sunday evening.

On Friday, August 7th, the men will enjoy a time of food and fellowship at Pastor Hird’s with an outdoor cookout and bonfire.

The following Sunday, the Officers are meeting at 5pm.

Another baptismal service has been scheduled for Sunday evening, August 16th.

How times flies!  18 years ago this fall, my family met with a very small group of Christians for our first service on Weston Road, just south of Major Mackenzie on the Woodbridge/Maple line.  On Sunday, September 20th, we will celebrate the goodness and grace of Almighty God to us.  We have many God-honouring things planned for our Anniversary Service.  Come and worship with us.  Our theme is: “To God Be The Glory.”  There will be special music, a personal sermon from me, a book table, plenty of pizza and desserts, and a spirit of love and humility as we rejoice in Jesus.

The youth are coming to our home from 6pm-9pm this Saturday for a time of food, fellowship, and fun.

This Sunday is our final Friend Day & BBQ.  Everything starts at 10am with Sunday school classes for the children, teenagers, and adults.  The morning worship service is at 11am, followed by the BBQ.  There is no evening service so that we can use this time to get to know one another better.

The men’s cookout at Pastor Hird’s home is on Friday, August 7th at 7pm.

The monthly men’s and women’s Bible at the church is on Wednesday, August 12th at 7pm.

The next baptismal service is scheduled for Sunday, August 16th , following the evening service.

A week long distribution of John and Romans will begin on Monday,  September 14th.  We are aiming to give out 3,000 of  these Bible booklets with gospel tracts enclosed.

Our 18th anniversary service is on Sunday, September 20th.  There will be plenty of pizza and desserts for everyone.  Come and celebrate God’s goodness and grace to us.  Our theme: “To God Be The Glory.”

We worshipped the Lord on Sunday by witnessing the baptism of four adults and one teenager.  Four of these were led to the Lord last Monday.  We all rejoiced to hear the testimonies and to see the obedience of these in following their Lord in believer’s baptism.

The youth group is headed to our home on Saturday, July 25th for another “ping pong and pizza” night.  There will be a short devotional and plenty of food, fun, and fellowship.  We will meet from 6pm – 9pm.

Preparations are being made for our final Friend Day & BBQ on Sunday, July 26th.  There is no evening service.  Everything begins with Sunday school at 10am with classes for the children, teens, and adults.  Then, at 11am, we meet for our morning worship service,  followed by the BBQ.

Our men’s cookout is scheduled for Friday evening, August 7th at Pastor Hird’s home.

Much prayer and work is already in progress as we plan for our 18th Anniversary service on Sunday, September 20th.  The week prior will be dedicated to prayer meetings and the distribution to the community of 3,000 John and Romans booklets with flyers and gospel tracts.  The theme is: “To God Be The Glory.”

Friday, July 10th, 2009

We are baptizing this Sunday following the morning service.  A number of folks have been led to the Lord recently, and some of these will be among those baptized.

The church Officers are meeting at 5pm in my office this Sunday.

Upcoming events include the youth activity on Saturday, July 25th at our home; a Friend Day & BBQ on Sunday, July 26th; a men’s cookout at Pastor Hird’s on Friday evening, August 7th; the monthly men’s and women’s Bible study on Wednesday, August 12th; and our 18th Anniversary Services on Sunday, September 20th.

We were very saddened with the sudden death of Dr. Greg Baker, Pastor of FaithWay Baptist Church in Ajax.  He led their church in sponsoring us into Canada and I had the privilege of teaching at the college for about seven years and preaching there on several occasions.  My wife and I considered ourselves good friends with Pastor and Mrs. Baker.  Each of our four children attended the day school for several years, with our daughter graduating from there.  As I have stated publicly, there is so much about FaithWay that I would like to see modeled in our church.  We have many wonderful memories that will live on in our minds.  I have made many friends at FaithWay over the years.  I always look forward to the Bible conferences and seeing everyone.  They have a strong, mature church family and a solid, loving pastoral staff.  I know that the Lord will take care of them and His church there in Ajax.  Our prayers are with them and the Baker family.  We rejoice over all the good and glorious things that have been done there for our Saviour!  We look forward with great expectation and joy of what God has planned for them in the days ahead.

We celebrated another Friend Day and BBQ this past Sunday with a very good attendance. In spite of some light rain and some of our folks away because of the Canada Day weekend, God blessed us with a wonderful day. We opened the service by singing “O Canada,” the choir sang, a beautiful duet was sung by Justin and Melita, the Lord graciously saved two, we had several more first-time visitors, and the BBQ, hosted by Seema, was full-filling. We thank the Lord for His undeserved kindness to us again!

About 900 John and Romans booklets and gospel tracts were delivered on Saturday as we completed a blitz of a new housing development in Maple.

Because of Canada Day this Wednesday, our mid-week service is on Tuesday at 7pm.  We are dividing up for our monthly men’s and women’s Bible studies.

This Sunday, in the evening service, we are remembering Calvary by observing the Lord’s Supper.

On Sunday morning, July 12th, we will be baptizing. There is an Officers meeting at 5pm.

On Saturday, July 25th, the youth group is coming to my home for food and fellowship. It is another of our “ping pong and pizza” nights!

Then, on Sunday, July 26th, there is another Friend Day and BBQ.  This is also the last day to donate clothing for Pastor Alex’s church and orphanage ministry in Africa.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 20th, as we celebrate our 18th anniversary.
