Pastor’s Pen - June 22, 2009

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

On Sunday morning, I preached from Luke 15 and related the actions of the prodigal’s father to fathers today.  We saw his provisions, pity, pardon, and peacemaking actions.
Sunday night, I concluded a two part series “Move To Maturity.”  With so many new and young Christians in our church, my challenge to our congregation was to stimulate spiritual growth in them through stedfastness, sensitivity, and sufficiency.

This Saturday we are hitting the highways again to complete the distribution of the John and Romans booklets to a new housing development in Maple.

Then, on Sunday, we are hosting another Friend Day and BBQ.  There is no evening service as we focus on building relationships within the congregation.

Because of the Canada Day holiday on Wednesday, our usual mid-week service will be moved to Tuesday, June 30th.  This week is our monthly men’s and women’s separate Bible studies at the church.  A fellowship time will follow. There are classes for women, men, children, and a nursery.  Everything starts at 7pm.

The Lord’s Supper will be observed on Sunday evening, July 5th with baptisms on Sunday morning, July 12th.

We’re looking forward to a great Father’s Day service this Sunday at 11am.  I’m preaching a sermon that I hope will both honour the Lord and each father here.  Sunday night, I will be preaching to our entire congregation.

On Tuesday evening, our soul winning and visitation teams are heading out to the highways and byways.

On Wednesday evening, I’m continuing our expository study through the book of Hosea.  Prayer groups will follow.

Saturday, June 27th, is our second summer blitz with the John and Romans booklets.  We’re expecting a great number of folks to distribute the glad tidings!

Then, on Sunday, June 28th, there is another Friend Day and BBQ at 11am.  There is no evening service as we will utilize this time to build relationships with all the new people coming out.

Because of the Canada Day holiday on Wednesday, July 1st, we are changing our regular mid-week service from Wednesday to Tuesday.  This night, our monthly men’s and women’s studies will be held.  I will teach the men while my wife will teach the women.  There is a class for the children, as well.  Afterwards, we hope folks can stay for some fellowship.  Everything starts as usual at 7pm.

Remember, we want to minister to the entire family.  There is a supervised nursery and children’s classes at each and every service.

We praise the Lord for another wonderful Lord’s Day. We are rejoicing over a wave of visitors that have been coming to the church. Just over the past month, we have had new families from Russia, Mexico, Bulgaria, San Salvador, Trinidad, and The Philippines. By the way, we have also had a few native Canadians among those visitors!!

June’s Anchor was distributed on Sunday and the pictures surely possess many fond memories for all of us. Carol’s testimony was stirring and pointed us to a precious Saviour.

Clothing is starting to come in as we collect for an orphanage overseen by one of our Baptist pastors in Africa.

There is an Officer’s meeting this Sunday in my office at 5pm.

Father’s Day is June 21st. In the morning, I will be preaching a special sermon geared for our men, with application to everyone. Sunday evening’s message will be a topical one meant for all Christians.

Don’t forget, Friend Day and a BBQ is on Sunday, June 28th. Sunday school for adults, teens, and children is at 10am and our main service is at 11am with the BBQ following. There will be no evening service so that folks will hopefully stay longer as we work on building relationships with those we don’t know as well.

On May 31st, with 192 present, we celebrated our first Friend Day of 2009.  God provided beautiful weather for our BBQ.  The congregational music was stirring and the choir special was filled with exaltations to a gracious God.  So many pitched in to make it a memorable day at VBC.  For those who were able to come, thank you for your friendship! If you missed this one, our next Friend Day and BBQ is Sunday, June 28th.

On Saturday, May 30th, 22 adults and children delivered 1500 John and Romans booklets to a new housing development in Maple.  One of our ladies was eight months pregnant!  What a heart!  We will complete the coverage of this area on Saturday, June 27th.  Thank the Lord for these messengers of love.

We are again collecting clothing for an Independent Baptist Missionary in Africa who oversees an orphanage along with his pastoral duties.  This continues until the end of July.

This Sunday, Pastor Adams’ expository preaching series through Micah continues in the morning service.  There is an usher’s meeting following the morning service.  Choir practice is at 5pm, prior to the evening service.  Next Sunday, there is an Officer’s meeting.

On Wednesday evening, before we meet in our prayer groups, Pastor Adams is continuing his study with the adults through the book of Hosea.  The children are meeting for their classes.
