Pastor’s Pen - May 31, 2009

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Our first Friend Day of 2009 is being held on Sunday, May 31st.  All are invited for this special service with a BBQ to follow.  Sunday school is at 10am as usual and the main worship service is at 11am.  There is no Sunday evening service this week because of the festivities on Sunday.  Friend Day sermons always have an application to the unsaved.  I’m preaching a sermon entitled: “How are you using the gift of God?”  This phrase is used only a few times in the Bible and I am making application of three distinct uses of it.

On Saturday, May 30th, a good number of our people are distributing the John and Romans booklets at a new housing development in Maple.

Blair Cassidy preached a great sermon last Sunday night.  He, along with Pastor Hird, Frank Baccari, and David Kapauan filled the pulpit on Sunday evenings in May spiritually challenging our people.

$375 was sent to Pastor Seely and the folks at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Carbonear, Newfoundland as we took up an offering for their Sacrificial Sunday service in June.

Last Sunday we honoured over forty mothers for their sacrificial service to their families! I preached and challenged the mothers to exemplify unfeigned faith with their children. David Kapauan preached an exceptional message in the evening on the Christian marathon.

Tonight, Frank Baccari is preaching. Known for his carpenter skills around here, Frank will challenge us (nail us) to build faithful lives founded upon the Scriptures and our Saviour.

There are sign-up sheets in the hallway for Friend Day and the John & Romans blitz on the last weekend of May. Let’s pray and work hard to make this a soul-winning and soul-stirring day!

We thank God for each Mother here today! No son or daughter could fully express their sincere appreciation for your sacrificial devotion to them. It is our prayer that you enjoy this day. May God richly bless you. As a small token of our love, we have a potted flower for you. Please pick this up as you leave the church today.

David Kapauan is preaching tonight. I know you’ll be blessed by his spirit-challenging sermon.

For the next two weeks, we are taking a free will offering for Cornerstone Baptist Church where Dennis Seely is the pastor. We are trying to raise $500 to help with their sacrificial Sunday. So far, $150 has come in.

The latest Anchor and Sword of the Lord are on the back table.

During our morning service, we will take a few testimonies. I know we’ll be encouraged and God will be glorified as you acknowledge what He is doing or has done in your life!

For the next three weeks, we will be taking a free will offering for Pastor Seely’s church in Newfoundland to help with their sacrificial Sunday. Our goal is to try to raise $500. As I mentioned last Sunday, our own finances have been down for the past four months. But I truly believe, as we help our missionaries, God will bless us here! If everyone truly returns their tithe to the Lord, we’ll be able to complete the work the Lord has given us to do.

Next Sunday we will have a special potted flower for every mother present.

Over the next four Sunday evenings, our men will be filling the pulpit. Pray for these men and attend each service to show your love for His Word and support these willing servants.
